Blackburn will hope to capitalize on their recent good form and grab all three points against visitors Aston Villa this weekend and rise out of the bottom three teams on the league table.
Blackburn currently occupy the 18th position on the league table with 24 points from as many games. The Rovers played out a 0-0 draw against Middlesbrough last weekend; a result that did no favors to either team. The arrival of Sam Allardyce has certainly galvanized the Ewood Park faithful, but the fact remains they are still in the bottom three. Allardyce has managed to hold onto Roque Santa Cruz, who was a Manchester City target during January. However it is rumored the Paraguayan striker will be on his way to Eastlands at the end of the season.
Brett Emerton is out for the season after suffering cruciate knee ligament damage during the Boro game. Striker Matt Derbyshire has moved to Olympiakos on a six-month loan deal, while Sunderland striker El Hadj Diouf has arrived at Ewood Park.
Meanwhile Aston Villa's relentless progress at the top of the table continued last week even though they were held to a goalless draw by Wigan Athletic. Villa currently have 48 points from 24 games; the same as third-placed Chelsea who are ahead due to a better goal difference.
Manager Martin O'Neill has brought in Emile Heskey from Wigan and is hopeful his side can secure a Champions League berth at the end of the season. Ashley Young will be available for selection after completing a three-game ban, while Norwegian striker John Carew could feature after recovering from a back injury.
